| Chris Walker and Fin Carson leading a session in Dumfries on social networking sites |
A new series of free monthly events on
a range of topics designed to help businesses to maximise opportunites for growth has been taking place since April in
the Borders and in Dumfries and Galloway.
On April 20th, Ed Hunter led a session at the Aston Hotel on the Crichton
Campus, Dumfries, on Non-executive Directors – their role in developing and strengthening your business.
The
following evening, entrepreneur and corporate recovery specialist Richard Palmer, led the Borders session held at The Town
House, Melrose.
As with all our events, the format is designed around a facilitated discussion which encourages
a free exchange of ideas among all the participants. Following the discussion, there is the opportunity to network and develop
meaningful business relationships.
It's a formula which has received much positive response from all those
attending the events in Melrose and Dumfries with comments about how useful the events themselves have been as well as providing
the chance to network and make new business contacts. In some cases, this has also led to new business opportunities.
Capitalising on social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter was the subject of May's events
held in Dumfries and Melrose. The Dumfries event was presented by Finlay Carson, Director of CMS and Chris Walker, owner
of The Selkirk Arms Hotel whilst the Borders event was presented by John Ayscough, Creative Director of Colourful Bernard.
These well-attended events provided local businesses with the chance to better understand the importance of website
marketing and gain the edge over competitors who are not yet employing these techniques which are becoming increasingly important
in developing new sales channels. June 16th saw Martin Avison, CEO of Reality Gap speak about Innovative Finance, Private
Equity and Angel Funding at the Borders event held in Melrose, whilst the Dumfries event held the following day at the Aston
Hotel focussed on ‘maximising on your most important resource.' That session was led by Nigel Fortnum of Fortnum
Select and Joanna Woodford, a training and motivational specialist.
Both the Borders and Dumfries and Galloway
July events were booked to capacity with the topic ‘How to Capitalise on Internet Marketing' drawing
considerable interest from businesses across the south of Scotland.
Finlay Carson of IT firm, CMS and Helen Fenby
of Cream o' Galloway, spoke about the importance of internet marketing, a subject which provoked many questions from those
attending the Dumfries and Galloway event held at the Aston Hotel, Dumfries.
The turnout reflected the growing
recognition among businesses about the importance of using the world wide web effectively to grow their sales.
